Hutson Collection

In 2004 Mick Hutson died at an early age, cutting short his extensive researches into the LSWR (and other subjects). Mick bequested the product of his research to the Circle so that it could be made available to other researchers.

When received it consisted of 30 lever arch files full to bursting, occupying some eight feet of shelf space. This is gradually being refiled to avoid damage to the contents, and is being scanned on to computer.

The largest part of the collection conststs of a photographic survey of the buildings and structures of the LSWR, arranged as a tour of the lines. This takes the form of photographs, mostly taken by Mick, but supplemented by historical images, each with an extended commentary. Maps, plans and drawings are also included. In addition to this are 5 volumes on locomotives , one each on the carriage and wagon stock, two containing the notes made by Mick at the PRO and two holding the Pryor track diagrams.

This material is to valuable to entrust to the postal service, but is still available for members to borrow by personal collection at Circle meetings or by arrangment with the Membership Secretary who holds the collection, or the Portfolio Officer.
